What Is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a cosmetic laser treatment in which hair follicles are destroyed through the use of energy at a specifically calibrated wavelength. This laser beam has a high penetrative index designed to rupture the hair follicle, prohibiting it from encouraging hair growth in treatment areas such as the face, legs, arms, underarms, and back.

It’s important to note that hair is not permanently removed through laser treatment; instead, the duration between periods of regrowth is stretched, and damage of up to 20% is induced to the hair follicle with each session. Laser hair removal is most effective when the energy is used on actively growing hair; in other words, the treatment should only be employed during the initial hair growth phase, which is also known as the “anagen” phase. Moreover, follicles are shed around 15 to 20 days after treatment.

What Are the Benefits of Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal can offer a variety of advantages over other hair removal treatments. Depending on the laser being utilized and the expertise of the provider, these benefits can include:

The device we use for laser hair removal was chosen specifically for its accuracy, effectiveness, and ability to create a more comfortable patient experience. Hair that is removed with Splendor X® generally takes longer to grow back as compared to other hair-removal methods, and the results are often much smoother and more natural-looking.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

The success of a laser hair removal treatment is determined by many factors, including the color of the hair and skin type. While advancements in laser technology have made laser hair removal applicable to most patients, hair must have pigment for the laser to most effectively remove it. That said, laser hair removal often produces the best results on a high contrast between hair and skin (i.e. very dark hair and light skin).

As with every procedure we offer at Regional Skin & Laser Center, the only way to determine your candidacy for laser hair removal is to attend a consultation with a member of our team. For a comprehensive evaluation of your aesthetic and skin care needs, feel free to contact us today.

What Areas Can Laser Hair Removal Treat?

The Splendor X® system was specifically designed to eliminate undesired hair from all parts of the body. The areas most commonly treated with these lasers include:

What Does the Laser Hair Removal Treatment Involve?

Laser hair removal is a three-step procedure. First, your provider will cleanse the area of any dirt, oil, or debris. Then, we will shave the region to remove surface hair while keeping the hair follicles intact. Finally, your provider will pass the Splendor X® handpiece gently over the skin, emitting concentrated light energy to reduce unwanted hair.

The length of each session will depend on the area being treated; for instance, larger areas (like the back) may take up to an hour, whereas the face or neck are generally much quicker. Moreover, the state-of-the-art Dual Cooling System (DCS) should make for a virtually painless experience.

What Can I Expect During Laser Hair Removal Recovery?

Following your laser hair removal session, the treated region may still feel warm for up to 24 hours. Slight redness, swelling, and/or rashes may occur, but these effects should subside within about two hours. Applying a soothing gel, like aloe vera, is recommended for a week after treatment.

For roughly 48 hours, you should avoid exposing skin to direct sunlight, saunas, and hot ovens; during this time, we also advise you not to do intense cardio exercises. In the case of facial areas, avoid wearing makeup for 72 hours after the session.

You should also be mindful of over-exposure to the sun following your laser treatment and should use high-quality lotions and sunscreens. During your consultation, a member of our team can evaluate your complexion and help you develop a regime with medical-grade skin care products.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Sessions Do I Need?

The number of laser hair removal sessions and the choice of treatment depend on the location of the area, hair-growth cycle, and density of hair. Because not all hair is in the same phase at the same time, multiple sessions are almost always necessary to achieve optimal, long-lasting results. While the arms and legs generally require fewer sessions as compared to the face and neck regions, your individual case may vary. Regardless of your unique needs, our team will tailor a treatment plan to your specific skin and hair types.

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost?

The cost of your laser hair removal procedure is contingent upon several factors, not limited to the extent of treatment, the treatment areas, the type of laser being administered, and whether or not a topical anesthetic is applied.

During your initial consultation, you will be thoroughly informed on the details of your care, including the price. Meanwhile, please feel free to direct any financial questions to our staff.
